I found some of my Windows Server 2008 clients did not install any windows updates for a couple of months.
There were no updates available in the software center, although it was being targeted with updates in SCCM 2012 R2.
When checking the WuauHandler.log i came across the following error “OnSearcgComplete failed to end search job. Error = 0x80244010.” This errors says that it has reached the number of retries to reach the WSUS server. And when checking the WindowsUpdate.log and noticed the following error after each Windows Update scan “8007000E” which translates to “not enough resources available”.
There is a KB released by Microsoft to address this issue, but there is also a manual fix to resolve this issue.
To manually resolve this issue, do the following:
1. Open the command prompt
2. Type “sc config wuauserv type= own
3. Restart the Windows Update service and run another scan through the config manager client.
After a couple of minutes the updates will start appearing in the Software Center.
