OnSearchComplete – Failed to end search job. Error = 0x80072ee2.

Jul 12, 2016 | | Say something

We are running Configuration Manager 2012 R2 SP1 CU2 in our envionment and had some clients report the following error in the wuahandler.log on a Windows 7 32-bit workstation, “OnSearchComplete – Failed to end search job. Error = 0x80072ee2.”

“Error = 0x80072ee2” translates to a connection time-out to the wsus server.

Resolved the issue by doing the following:

Single computer method:

sc.exe stop wuauserv

sc.exe config wuauserv type= own

sc.exe strart wuauserv

Multiple computers method:

sc.exe \\computername stop wuauserv

sc.exe \\computername config wuauserv type= own

sc.exe \\computername strart wuauserv

Powershell Script method:

#######################################################
#Configure Windows Update Client to run in own process#
#Author: Anton Potgieter #
#######################################################
$Computers = get-content -path C:\Temp\RestartServices\Computers.txt
$Services = get-content -path C:\Temp\RestartServices\Services.txt
$LogTime = Get-Date -Format “MM/dd/yyyy hh:mm:ss”

ForEach ($Computer in $Computers){

write-host `n

write-host Processing computer $computer -ForegroundColor yellow

$column = 1

if ((Test-Connection -computername $Computer -count 1 -Quiet) -eq $true) {

sc.exe \\$Computer stop wuauserv
sc.exe \\$Computer config wuauserv type= own
sc.exe \\$Computer start wuauserv

}
else {

add-content “C:\Temp\RestartServices\Restart_Service.log” “$LogTime ,$Computer, is offline.”

}
}
